| Tsitsikamma is situated at the heart of the picturesque tourist region known as the Garden Route, found in the Southern Cape of South Africa. Tsitsikamma is a Khoisan word meaning, “place of much water". Tsitsikamma has spectacular sea and landscapes, a remote mountainous region with secluded valleys covered in mountain Fynbos and temperate high forests with deep river gorges leading down to the sea.
The Tsitsikamma’s spectacular scenery includes the Indian Ocean breakers, pounding
rocky shores beneath 180 m high cliffs, ever-green forests and fynbos (proteas and heath) rolling down to the sea in a lush carpet where ancient rivers have carved their path to the ocean through rocky ravines. All this conspires to attract large numbers of international and local tourist to the area.
A mild all year round climate allows one to make the most of all the outdoor activitiesthat are on offer, whilst a high rainfall ensures the lushness of vegetation
that the area is renowned for.
The region has many wonderfully scenic hiking trails of which it is justifiably proud, though
its greatest asset remains the world-renowned Otter Trail. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that remains indelibly imprinted on the mind. Robbehoek Kloof and Trails offers trails (Walking and Mountain bike) in the heart of the tranquil Tsitsikamma. Outeniqua Biking Trails offers the best Mountain Bike trails and services. Thaba Manzi Estate offers hunting safaris on their farm and fishing excursions to
the best fishing spots in the area. |
